I am still blaming my sanding them when I did for those chor mem issues, and not using the bleach water for dipping or distilled. Thats why some got the bacteria I am sure of it.

NOTES:
dont wait to see what they do weight wise, SAND BEFORE SETTING, add humidity as needed. Use distilled Water and do the light bleach mix for each dip to prevent bacteria.
Use two bators to add humidity to eggs that need it ONLY. Shoot for 16-19% weight loss for these ducks and best to get the a good portion lost at the beginning so that humidity can be given at end of incubation so ducks are not dried out.

Have you heard of people using chlorhexadine to wash eggs? My roommate said he read that somewhere. Not suggesting you do it, just curious if you had heard about it.

I would love to use chlorhexidine for eggs, what a brilliant idea. Pretty sure it would work well on styrofoam as 2 ell without deteriorating it like the sun or bleach would?

awww sorry to see that Sally. I am getting nervous for when my guys hatch. As you know never done ducks before.

So I have broody chickens helping me out and Urgggg its going bad. Lost one chick (it got squashed as two hens decided to get into a scrap I think). Chickens getting off eggs, Cold chicks half out and even had two stuck chicks that had gotten stuck. I miss hatching in my incubator!!

Does anyone know if it is possible to breed Cornish Giants too??

never heard of it, let me know if you find anything.... This is what I have bookmarked when I needed to find safe stuff for the ducks

I'm about to set 10 peafowl eggs in the bator and I'm thinking about the best way to clean it first. The plastic is easy enough, but how does one clean the electronics?

I love broodies, just wish my bigger hens were broody, seems only my smallest ones are interested.

Its nasty stuff but I stand by fumigation. - For fumigation of eggs and incubator, use 1.35ml of 40% formalin solution and 0.84g potassium permanganate per cubic foot of air space

it cleans the eggs and the incubator.

It gets into areas that cleaners cant.

You can also fumigate during incubation - after day 5 and before day 15 - which i have done after a stinking oozer - at lower concentration (0.5ml 40% formalin and 0.2g potassium permanganate) in mid incubation e.g. one and two weeks after the start of incubation

you have to have an area that is well ventilated to clear the gass afterwards - i incubate in a seperate building

Her pen is just not set up for such tiny ducklings. My 3 week old still can slip through. I wonder if being broody will break when I take the eggs? I have 4 older ducklings to introduce her to tomorrow, so hopefully she won't be depressed?? I can find ZERO info. on this topic.
