13% of 635 is 82.55 meaning that you want to get down to approximately 552.
R2Elk..thanks so much I had 563..close but not quite.

On weighing
I had some infertile and a bad one. I took them out but kept them in the carton i weigh in.Will that affect the weight to not have them in that particular incubator humidity? Im leaving the non proformers in the carton in room air and temp when weighing with the others .
Guess i could weigh them and record and deduct them then pitch to:hmmnly one last reading day 18.this is day 12.
Just didnt want an incubator blow up.

Febendazole

Fenbendazole was tested for embryotoxicity and teratogenicity
in rats and rabbits dosed by gavage. Embryotoxicity was not seen in
either species, while fetotoxicity in the form of an increased
frequency of occurrence of 13th ribs and delayed ossification of
cranial bones occurred in rabbits given a dose of 63 mg/kg b.w./day.
The NOEL were 2500 mg/kg b.w./day in rats and 25 mg/kg b.w./day in
rabbits.

In dogs, pigs, sheep, and cattle, the oral administration of
fenbendazole at various times during the gestation period did not
result in treatment-related effects in the offspring.

I am never simple

I alternate between Ivermectin topically and Fenedazole. I started a quarterly regimen. I dont stop eating or incubating.

As my birds stop laying in December, this year I will hit them with valbazen the. It is Teratogenic. I can buy that in the philippines by the CC from the agrivet. The other 2 arent effective against tape worm.

I also have the parental injection version of Ivermectin I use on pigs but injecting micro doses in a chicken is a pain in the butt and prefer it if there are less chances to needle stick exposure to my people.

I buy the generic Ivermectin and Safeguard (Febendazole) from Jeffers.

Febendazole - I use the safeguard multi species in their feed.

adding.... what ratio =

Boiled Eggs: Soft and Hard — Part 1

These are cool reads!

not just about cooking! the cooking is in parts 3 and 4 but even those are cool if you like cooking eggs! WHO DOESNT!

So here is some of my research...

Please note that these eggs all came to me in Southern California. They were then repacked in size appropriate foam, and placed in three layers USPS Regional Flat Box B. The boxes were padded externally and then shipped in luggage to Asia - 7500 miles

I have 1000s of eggs with data but this is my most recent hatch.I need more data on eggs that are not effected by the overseas flight to be most useful to the research paper

I will be setting up a new thread with a form so that hopefully I can get good help from BYCers. To participate in the final research (apart from the questions I earlier asked to be PMd, I will need a control group local egg hatch of > 50% of the shipped eggs. You will have the option of giving your name or user name. If you supply me with your name I will add you as a co-author. The goal is to get it published in a peer reviewed scientific journal.

Not only were my bantam cochin eggs late, they were all scrambled beyond recognition.

Maybe it was a sign I need LF cochin instead.

Four of my six eggs have hatched as of this morning. Day 21! Two of the eggs that hatched were the ones with the worst air cells, where as of going into lockdown, they took up half of the entire shell! I have 2 more with no pips at all... hopefully they will hatch too. With the displaced air cells, and the enlarged air cells..I am happy the little chicks could survive despite it! They both are smaller than the other two chicks though.....

Have been watching this thread and learning lots. Read hatching 101 several times, very helpful. Thanks for posting ur work!

Have a question. When weighing eggs to track humidity, 13% to be lost over the 21 days, right? So if I figure out what 13% is and divide that amount by 3, is that the right amount of weight to be lost by day 7? Or should there be less weight lost in the early portion of the incubation to leave room for high humidity at lockdown? Did that make any sense? Please advise.

Another way to ask the question is whether the humidity/weight loss is constant over 21 days or if dryer conditions are required to loss a bit extra in the first couple weeks to make up for the heavy humidity in the last 3 days? Think I found the answer in a link from hatching 101 to aviagen.com. Says 11-12% weight loss in first 18 days. Will try to work towards that goal. Thank you!

Phew! It's been a manic last few days. What a crazy hatch that was. I now have 5 ducklings (they are doing great now) 5 turkey poults and 8 chicks. Doesn't sound like much but they sure had me busy! My first duck came out and hadn't absorbed it's yolk sac so wrapped him up in a damp wash cloth and gave it home made electrolyte. His/her name is now Linus as it seemed so content there in it's binky lol. 2 days and the yolk sac was where it should be. Then I had one hatch, Banderas, with it's one leg splayed so tied that up to the other took it off today and he is waddling perfectly! All turkeys hatched lovely apart from one is blind in one eye... He shall be named pop eye! The chicks were coming out soooo well then bam they went all sticky. Yuk! So bad I had to bath one. It's still got pretty rock hard but nowhere near as bad as it might have been. It was all good fun though and as nervous as I got I loved EVERY minute of it! Today I caught up on housework lol so glad I have an understanding husband lol

I am actually doing a test on what my "eye" equals to with weight loss, I have a feeling that heading to 14+% may have better hatching of chicks than the lower. I will confirm this in two weeks. Ducks I just hatched losses were 15.4 to 20.10% weight loss!! and those were the numbers that hatched! So dont panic if you reach 14% in fact I would try to reach it throughout and then up humidity during the last week if needed. Its always better to loose through entire process just not at the end or the beginning!

Thank you Sally. That is helpful. My last hatch I did not weigh the eggs, just watched air cells and kept w/in the 25-40% range. Ended up w a couple shrink-wrapped so must have been too dry, tho not sure how much too dry. Now watching the weights, I might be getting a little too neurotic about % weight loss. Lol. Learning lots tho by watching the data. Especially seeing the %weight loss from smaller eggs vs larger eggs. I'm starting to understand why there is not a set humidity that works for all eggs.

To mix things up, a friend brought by a dozen guinea eggs. It was not part of the plan, but it's so tough not to find room in the bator to give them a shot. We'll see how those work. Such thick shells, having a tough time seeing anything in them. Got weights on them tho, :).

Your work w the duck eggs is very interesting. Looking forward to seeing ur results in a couple weeks!

Set 20 Brahma eggs, one infert, one cull due to broken yolk and external intestines, 18 chicks. Set 4 CCL hatched 4 girls! Finally a turn for the better! Set 4 White faced have 3 chicks, one early death.
All hatched within 12 hours! That is a first EVER! usually the white faced go a day early! I am not complaining! Chicks head to Florida in the morning! except white faced, we need to grow out a rooster or two to replace existing. IF I keep them that long
hu.gif
I want to keep them but I want another breed more. oh decisions!
