Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

Pics
All of you "Special Chicken" moms are wonderful. I am so glad that God, yes God, blessed me with my Broke Beak. He/She is so smart, cute, and is beautifully colored. Very small compared to her chickmates who are Silkies. Broke Beak and Darkness are buddies. If Broke Beak goes somewhere Darkness follows, if they get separated they call out for each other, and BB crawls under Darkness and sleeps. Darkness is the largest chick and has just been confirmed as a Roo. It's like Mutt and Jeff, LOL.

Oh and by the way...we live in Georgia and it was raining today. The chicks didn't get in their coop so they got wet and I opened the door and they came in. They preened themselves and then three out of the four decided to stand on the door sill and think about whether or not to go back out. It was a priceless picture for me :)

Nimby Chickens, I love you for what you do for your lady. I'm having such a hard time finding local chicken people that feel they are family/pets instead of food sources. When my daughter's chick got a cat bite and I went to get Penicillin for her, the lady at the store asked why I would bother wasting my money ($7) on a chick.
None of my chicks have any deformities but I read this thread to see how I'm not the only one who loves these birds as they are...off the table!

That has to be the cutest picture I ever seen! ;) It was so good to finally see some rain. Mine have been playing in the uddles all day and my white silkies are now orange!!! But they were having fun! LOL

Would you believe that Cadburry is the only one of my chickens that flies? It is one thing when she flies to my shoulder, but she was actually flying down the run (which was only extended from six to 22 feet yesterday) today. is this an extra defense mechanism? I am very confused by this fact. I am also lost as to why she will eat from my hand while sitting on my arm or shoulder, but hates being held.

Thank you it is cute! My two white silkies have orange foot feathers too and they get into Broke Beaks mash so their feathers get mash in them. How many silkies do you have? Do you have sizzles or frizzles? Do you sell? I am looking for a splash and buff and I'm interested in the sizzle and frizzles?

I do not have sizzles or frizzles but I do have alot of silkies. I only have 3 splash hens but alot more of the blues, partridges (several variations), blacks & a few whites. I got tons of chicks growing out and do have a buff youngster that is looking boyish right now. He does have some blue mixed in the tail feathers.
I have to make the mash for my entire flock because they all think it is the best treat in the world and then I have a few that have to eat off of the spoon! They are crazy!
Are you saying your silkies look like this? This is Lucy Loo Loo after diving face first in the mash! LOL

She eats fine, she never needed any help with eating, she used to not have very good aim but now she is fine. She is actually not that big either, she the average size in my flock. :)
