Yesterday, my DH found an add for Polish Crested chicks, and drove all the way to Rochester to get me 3 little chicks to raise all by myself. :)

Well, with chicken math and all that we ended up bringing home 4. One is dwkuska's, and the rest are mine, They are so cute and personable! I want to keep track of their growing up, and take more pictures than I did with the jungle fowl, so I'm starting a little picture diary here. :) These are the pictures from this morning.

That's Alice. She's dwkuska's Polish/Wyandotte cross, which is a really cool mix. She's got a poof ring around her neck as well as on her head, and she's obsessed with pecking things. Particularly, she likes pecking my ring, and pulling my arm hair off. When she's not pecking me, she's pecking the litter or her buddies, who don't appreciate it.

Alice likes to snuggle with The Hand, and will do just about anything to get that snuggle time. She does not appreciate other chicks attempting to snuggle The Hand as well. Snuggle at your own risk my friends!

Mojo does not like being petted, but does like The Hand. Particularly when The Hand has food.

Poof Head thinks The Hand is her mom. Every time I come in and sit down, she rushes to great The Hand and snuggle. Sometimes this gets awkward.

Like when she falls asleep with The Hand as a beak rest.

Of all the chicks, Ms Bagawk is by far the most independent. She doesn't mind striking out away from the other chicks, and she wants to be the first one to see what The Hand has to offer, and if she approves.

Most of the time, she does. :)

That's all the photos for 9AM this morning. No promises that will be all the pictures for the day. They're so cute!!

Time for the lunch time pictures.

I'm not chicken obsessed...promise...just anxious to make sure we don't have another batch of shy chickens. Although they ARE super cute and cuddly and...well...poofy.

I read in the learning center to help them become more like lap dogs then shy chickens, you hold them in your lap for short periods of time, so I tried that with Mojo and Ms. Bagawk. I'll snuggle the other after Mojo is done with her turn. :)

For some reason, I was expecting a bit more struggle. They all just snuggled right into my shirt like it was home though. Miraculously, I did not get pooped on. Sorry about the ugly stained shirt. Didn't want to try snuggling a chicken with something I might possibly want to keep afterwards. ;-)

After the chicks all got snuggled, I decided to offer them a live mealworm instead of the dried treats. Oh boy. Hours of entertainment with that!

Ms. Bagawk got it first.

Then Alice took it from her.

There there Ms. Bagawk. Poof Head is here to comfort you.

More pictures later! Off to the store now to buy them chicken vitamins, more mealworms, and other forms of chicken entertainment.
