Diary of My "Doomed From the Start" Incubation"

OH MAN this is going to be crazy exciting.  I do beleive if there are twins, they will hatch early, one being much smaller then the other and I do beleive they will need help.  Hopefully you can get them to internally pip and go from there.

Do your eggs hatch earlier than 21 days (without the twin situation) I am trying to plan lock down :)

No some on the due date and some the day after. I would stop turning them on day 17 but don't lock them down, this way they can get into position, then keep an eye on the twins each day after that. still lock them down on day 18 but just stop turning on day 17.. I think you said your on day 14 so give them 3 more days of turning..

Yay 3 of the 3 fertilized eggs hatched last night. The "twin egg" did in fact have a twin in it. It must have quit around day 10 or 11. It was completely rotten, but was encased in its own membrane away from the other chick. The surviving twin has a really "nobby" head in comparison to the two other chicks. I wonder if its normal for chicks to have a head like it to does or if its related to sharing an egg with a twin? (I have never had silkie chicks before, so I don't know.)

Hatching was stressful because the Dasp incubator SUCKS at keeping high humidity for solid amounts of time. The chicks all had dry membranes that I had to add non medicated ointment gel to. That made a HUGE difference preventing sticky chicks.

Here are my cute babies. I love that I got two grey and one black :)

OMG LOOK AT THAT HIGH VAULT. HAHAHAHA THAT'S WONDERFUL... LOOKS LIKE TWO SPLASHES AND A BLUE. haha, I can't believe that high vault... this is the second chick from my flock that I have seen a high vault like that. Now for the warnings, first when it gets older, it's going to have a hard time seeing because of that high vault the feathers will cover his eyes.

Second, with a high vault like that they are prone to very easy get hit in the head causing some problems like wry neck. if that is the case give me a Shout been throw it SEVERAL times.. They are gorgeous. it's very hard to get a high vault silkie and your one of the luckiest to successfully succeed. Congratulations. WONDERFUL JOB..

I ended up taking it out and rigged up a chicken wire flooring because I feared and wanted to avoid caught or splay legs

Agree, in fact, I lay them flat on the bottom of the incubator with nothing but the wire flooring, turning everything comes out three days before.. they some how manage to get in spots that you would Never guess they would and can hurt themselves..
