I really like it...Useful for anything just about. Got all the mites off my rosebush, and killed the ants climbing to my hummingbird feeder...Sprinkle under shavings in coop and nests, and around ground. Used in 6 mo. old pups food for deworming. Use food grade DE only, and can use for a BUNCH of things. You can even take it in water or juice to cleanse out parasites. Used it to dust chickens each month. Only one time did I find any mites on one of my chickens and they were from an outside perch under the leanto that she sat on a lot...Put DE on the bird and the perch and within a week and a couple of treatments no more mites.
well, i dusted their pens, butt (mites & lice)and run with it to kill the flies. i put a 1/4 cup in their feed for worming them . I have a big feeder and several chickens so that's why i use so much.
just make sure it's food grade not the pool stuff!
Anyway, I learned quite a bit about DE that I had either forgotten or didn't know. And now know it works wonderful both inside & outside a chicken. (If you read my other post, I did have to mix some Sevin dust in with the DE & use externally to get a quick knock out of the parasite problem I was having.)
I bought my first "food grade" DE from McMurray Hatchery. It is mixed with flax seed - not really sure why unless it's for the beneficial oils in flax. Here is the mixing instruction I got for this product:
Worm Guard Plus with Flax is available in a 2# package. Mix 1-1/4
cups per 50# of feed. This product is designed to treat internal
and external parasites.
I found some "food Grade" DE minus the flax seed at a local feed store which is much cheaper. I use it the same way & I dust my birds, their nests, and their pens with it.
