One day, in the night, two of our chicks got loose. We didn't find one but we found his sister. There were no traces of him anywhere. Did an owl kill him?

One day, in the night, two of our chicks got loose. We didn't find one but we found his sister. There were no traces of him anywhere. Did an owl kill him?

Not enough evidence. I make great efforts to confine vulnerable birds during night which often requires a flashlight left out and willingness to stay out with chicks to see where they roost as darkness closes. My dog helps with that. Distressed chicks essentially call predators like owls and foxes in with their distress calls.
