did anyone else put eggs in there incubator today

I dont blame you. I helped my last one out. Pipped, did nothing for 24 hours, since he was last I did the zipping. After I did it I wished I had not, because there was blood and vessels in the shell. I had to seperate him from the rest in the bator, and by the next day he was ok. ( I left them all in the bator for another 24 hours because I was to tired to make sure they were happy in the brooder)By then he looked normal just behind the rest. Now several days later he is still the smallest but doing fine. good luck.... I go back into lockdown tommorow...

I lost both of the chicks that had pipped yesterday.

This is a learning process for me. And I guess sometimes it really is best to just follow the rules. Lockdown means LOCK-DOWN.
I'm giving my remaining eggs until Thursday......

I wouldnt be so hard on yourself. I sure going in didnt matter. Sounds like you had more things going on.(or wrong). that poor chick all alone?

Yep. I have a poor lonely chick right now.
I have 11 eggs in the incubator. I'm giving them until Thursday to hatch.

I think I will contact the lady where I got my eggs and see if she has any new chicks. I know she set some eggs shortly before I did. I feel bad that the little thing is all by herself (I'm calling it a her in hopes we don't have to butcher it). And I'm pretty sure I'll need to pick up some more eggs while I'm at it.

I've gotta give this another go right now or I'll never do it again.....

Nellie I am so happy that you did get a chick. Congratulations

I do hope it proves to be a lovely one, and a girl!

I have a staggered hatch (and everyone tells you not to do this, by the way). My next lot are due tomorrow. They have brown shells and are hard to candle, and the person I got them from didn't know if they were fertile or not, although she did have one rooster running with over 30 hens. We will see if anything comes of it. The price was right. No sounds from inside the shells yet, so I'm thinking they will be late if they hatch at all. I can usually hear wee noises the day before the hatch.

My hatch is "officially" over tonight when I get home from work.

Yesterday, I went to the lady who I purchased my eggs from and bought 4 chicks from her. They are just a couple of days older than little Crash. It's the funniest thing watching them interact. It's like Crash didn't realize she was a chicken. They were scratching and pecking and she was running up and trying to do the same things, just more clumsy. HAHA

I'm going to clean up the incubator and she'll have more eggs for me this weekend. Gotta get right back up on the horse, right?

Sorry the first hatch wasn't great Nellie! Good for you for trying again! This time you'll have a better idea of what to expect as far as candling/lockdown etc. I should set some eggs with you

HI,
I set my first eggs today. 24 BCM's, 4 eggers's and a few mixed.
Put them in, closed the lid and felt panic....."what if I screw up and kill them."
My husband reminded me that if they had not gone into the incubator..........they would have been eaten.
Helped a little.

Good luck to all.
