i want to join i started 8-31 and have candled on day 7 and 10...new to this and have only thrown one out but have a few more that i think will not hatch...i have a wheaten ameracuana rooster and comets and 1 rir and 1 br and 1 ee...so the eggs are dark and hard to see through ...good luck with the hatches...

I set today 9 seramas and 18 barred rock/ Henry (he is a delaware) mixed. I wonder what they will look like? I hope they get my darling Henry's disposition!

I'm joining just as the fun begins! We have 8 chicks already out, and 13 more to go. My roo is an EE and all of our backyard hens laid eggs under the broody which is an isa brown. The other hens are ee's, a brown leggern and assorted brown egg layers.

I know what you mean, but we do what we have to to have chicks we want to raise. I have my 4th group of shipped eggs in hatcher. I'm sure none will hatch from those day 22, that group had a total of 24 eggs and I only had 5 in lockdown with misshaped air sacs. The last 2 I got 2 out of 18 and 5 out of 18. actually I hatched 1 my hen hatched 4. I still have 2 other sets of shipped eggs in incubator BCM's from Wynette and silkies from kelar and my neighbors bobwhite quails not sure how they will do they travel by horse and buggy so you never know. BCM's lock down on Sat. and the rest in 2 1/2 weeks.

I have never been able to get shipped eggs to hatch. NEVER. But it's like you said, when we want certain breeds, we do it anyway.

The entire dozen of white faced black Spanish eggs that Jim Bell sent me didn't make it. Most were early quitters, some had broken air sacs from the shipping process and never developed anything. I have 3 white faced blue Spanish eggs still in the incubator that are viable and showing good chick formation inside.

What I find interesting is that I have always read that you never, ever wash hatching eggs before setting them. Well, when these eggs arrived & there were several of the blue Spanish eggs broken, I had to wash off 4 of the Spanish eggs to get the icky stuff off them. The ones that remain viable in the bator are 3 of the 4 that I washed. Perhaps in the future, I will wash eggs before setting them.

I'm in we set 20 A&M quail, Bantams and Jersey giant eggs in the bator on the 1st. So the A&M's will be hatching on the 17th or 18th And the chickens should be popping out the 21st or 22nd. And we just had 30 out of 40 coturnix quail eggs hatch on the 9th. So we are going to be very busy mama's. It's going to be interesting to see the difference in chicks though.

Hi everyone,
Ok...so I wasn't gonna hatch anymore this year BUT....broody hen is now sitting on 12 eggs on my porch and started sitting on the 31st of august....THEN my GF gave me 8 BO Duckling eggs that were "old" so I thought ok....those were set on Sept.4th and when candled 6 of 8 look good
