Did I break her foot?

I would BET if you put 'shoes" on and as you do them, the chick will probably let you know how "straight" is too straight that it hurts. Before trying to put it on the first time, straighten them and see the reaction to how much is OK. Find her thresh hold and then try the shoes with just enough that its not painful but it is making a difference.

I tried to gently move her toes and she acted like it hurt which is why I thought I broke her foot when I moved the cage. But maybe she/he just really didn't want me touching her foot LOL

I feel so bad! Would it hurt to TRY to fix it?
It's a lot of bother--I know from experience. Does he seem to be inconvenienced at all by the foot? If you're breeding, you might want to just cull.

You see, it's painful when you try to correct the foot. And for older chickens, more than a few days old, whose bones have lost their initial flexibility, it's often ineffective unless you're really persistent with your treatment.

You could try a modified chick shoe for an older bird. It's called "Toe taping" and it is effective if you keep after it but--most birds don't care. It really may not be worth the effort.

poultry podiatry is a good site.

Yes I am breeding and I already figured I can't breed this one, because it may be genetic. But I don't want to just cull him now. I'd like to grow him out for the freezer, but I want him to have a good life in the meantime. You don't think it hurts to stand and walk like this?

I can't see your bird, so I can't judge. But if it's painful, he'll be lifting his foot and walking strangely. He'll limp and occasionally pick at it or look at it strangely. He may have a weird hopping stride. Less any of those things, I'd assume he's unaffected.

You guys I think I have to put him down. He is pretty much standing in the same spot or moving very slowly. Holding one foot up to his chest and just standing there like that with his eyes squinted shut. Then switches legs and does the same thing. Is there anything I can do to save him?
