The bird in question is 3.5 weeks old. After being told by a few people it does not look like a speckled sussex I googled it and they were right!

Yes, this is the same bird I posted about which I was unsure of the gender. Does anybody have reference pictures of a s.s. at 3 weeks? I'm waiting for it to feather out, just to be sure, but I think I was conned...

Well, it is really really cute. Really cute. I have no idea what it is... Did I mention it is cute. With my collection of hatchery chick I ordered a Speckled Sussex and got everything but... or it may have been the one that died on day one. I'm not sure. But now I have combined what I love about the Speckled Sussex, it's speckly color, with what I love about a cochin, feathery feet and a very sweet disposition, and have discovered the Mille Fleur Cochin.

You do at least have a speckly bird, and probably a pullet -- it's a very nice start.

My question is where did you get it? Did you get it from a top show breeder of Speckled Sussex that breeds to the standard or from a hatchery? If not from a Show line, and from a hatchery it could very well be a Speckled Sussex. The Hatchery birds DO NOT LOOK LIKE THE PICTURES in the catalog. The pics are taken from show quality stock, to give the buyer an idea of what it should look like, the birds you buy RARELY come close to the standard. So again it depends on where you perchased the chick from. Just like in dogs if you get a puppy from joe smo who has 2 labs & breeds them just because they have some sort of papers, does not get you the winner of the Westminster Kennel Club in that litter of Black lab pups with white lines on their chests. So grow it out & see how it finishes feathering up, then you will have a better idea of what it could be.
