Did I get duped?

Dora'smom :

Can you just call them and ask them? Ask them if she was part of a breeding project, as you have mentioned, and just did not conform as well as the others. What have you got to lose?

I don't know that I would be able to confront them

. Besides, I just cannot see them saying, "yeah we sold you a broody, non-egg laying old hen at twice the price" if that is what happened. Not to say that they are like that, in fact, they seemed nice. I just cannot think of a reason they would get rid of an older hen unless it was negative.

When I got her I did not get a good long look at her and did not notice how developed her face was. I have had chickens before, but always older hens from laying farms, so I am not sure what they look like at various ages, but did not think the "red parts" on her face would be so developed at 4-5 months old. After searching the threads here for pics of 4-5 month old welsummer pullets, I did see one and she looked younger than mine. I just thought I would post a pic of her and see what you all thought.

I got her to be a friend for my 4 month old ee, though the welsummer was boss 10 minutes after being here, they do sleep together on the roost. I do plan on keeping her unless she turns out to be an egg eater.

She looks young to me! I have some pullets that are 5 months old and are JUST starting to lay, I have been in no hurry, but went to the coop yesterday and there was 10 eggs, and we only have 10 birds so I assume all have started laying! lol (we check daily for eggs here)

Give her time, I wonder if she is starting a molt or something!?

She's near pol. They are not one of the earliest to lay for breeds and like the previous poster stated leghorns are not all laying by that age..I know mine are just starting and they are a young laying breed.
As a breeder these type of posts are troubling..you admit you have never had a bird this age but your ready to accuse the breeder of being dishonest.

I did not mean to imply that she should be laying at 5 months. I just could not think of a reason someone would get rid of an older hen unless it was negative. Somehow my question of age got lost in egg laying answers
