Look into getting Buckeyes. They are very docile and sweet tempered and follow their people around. I don't own one myself yet, but I've been talking to a lot of local breeders and reading up on them.

They are a heritage breed that you might enjoy a lot.

Lovely Buckeyes!

My plans are to get hatching eggs in early spring, whenever my Silkie or another one of my broodies gets in the mood.

I plan to add 3 buckeyes...but chicken math will likely take over as that means I have to put 6 eggs under my Silkie (that's as much as she can hold)...so that I know I'll get at least 3...but then with my luck all 6 will hatch...unless of course I decide to get a dozen and put Buckeye eggs under several broodies (since one got in the mood the other did too)...just to double hedge my bets...which with my luck....

And I suspect I will fall in love with the breed.
