Did I hear a peep? UPDATE: Chick hatch!!

Okay! I have one chick hatched. A cuckoo maran!

The FBCM egg is pipped and the chick is trying.

I think I saw movement in one of the Blue Copper Maran eggs.

Hailey the Cat got too interested in the incubator.

I relocated it to the bathroom and shut the door. I have no decent places to put the incubator. Too many inquisitive noses and my DH will stumble over the incubator on Thursday. (staggered hatch)

So, I may have to relocate it again.

Sky - and others - I'm so new at incubating I figger ONE live hatchling is success. (The whole 21 days I'm saying sub-vocally, "Please don't let me kill them - let at least ONE hatch!") The rest are bonus. BIG BONUS!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

There are so many variables...were they fertile?, is the temp. right?, is the humidity right?, turning ? and then the unknown factors....it almost seems to be a miracle that any hatch....so CONGRATULATIONS.

Okay, new update! This morning I checked the incubator and there are THREE chicks in it.

As I suspected, the FBCM hatched and the Blue Copper Maran hatched. Out of the first clutch, that's 3 from 12 eggs. I'd be really happy if another copper maran hatched or one of the blue orpington eggs hatched.

I have 9 more that's a staggered hatch that's due this weekend. Both FBCM and BOs. So, if these don't produce a blue orpington, maybe the others will.

The eggs I got were shipped from an ebay seller. I suspected a number of nonfertilized and quitter eggs, but since I'm so abysmal at candling, I left the eggs in. They not yet stinking up the place.
