Oh hurry up and take that cedar out. Cedar is terrible for chicks. Clean it out and replace it with paper towels for now. I'd hate to see anything happen to your chicks.
OH MY! Take out that cedar!! Its TOXIC to chicks. Pine shaveings are good, but only after they are a few days old, so they know WHATS FOOD! What is the update on the other eggs?? Anything??
Sorry what I meant to say was pine, not cedar. Well here it is the 5th and stil no babies I think I am going to have to start over. I was really hoping that we would get more but I guess not.
I will post pics of the two that hatched, One is totally yellow and the other is black and white. Very cute.
How many days late are they? What day is it for them? I have heard some hatch at day 27 or 28! Dont give up, unless you can no longer see blood veins, or movement. If there are blood veins, they are still alive. When the chick dies in the egg, the blood veins will dissapear, and all will turn black. Make sure when you candle them....you hold the light where the air sack is. The large end. Be patient...there might still be hope!
We are planning on candling them again to night. THis will 23 day. And I candled them a little bit there are still blood viens but not a bit of movement. I can wait a little while longer. I am just worried that I am wasting my time,
You might not see movement. When they get close to hatching, the egg is FULL of chick....so you might not see them move. 23 days is not too long....I would waite....maybe 3 more days. Unless they start to weep or stink.
Here are the pics for my hatch. ONly two out of the 42 eggs. Talk about frustrating. ANy here are my new babies
I am not sure if you can see the chick well in this last one. My niece is holding him. I thought I had pics of him with the black one but I cant find it. I might have to take some more of him.
Here is the black baby after he dried off, that was him fresh out of the shell in the first picture. He is really tiny probably becuase he is a little early.
