I wonder if you could rent a sand-blaster that would blast off all the flaky old paint as well as clean it. You'd probably want to remove the sand, since who knows whether the paint had lead, but it would give you a clean surface to work with without throwing out your back sanding and scraping.

Great find even if you only invest 100.00 into it, you will have a stellar coop, and still spend much less then you would buying a brand new one. Some TLC cleaning and some upgrades and you will have a great looking sturdy coop. The chickens would probably like it as it is, pretty is for us humans, the chickens just like, dry, clean and safe.

Wow, it really is a great coop for a buck! I have been all over Craigslist for months & didn't find anything near that. My husband ended up building ours, but I know if we could have come across an awesome dollar deal like that we would have jumped on it. Looks like nice solid wood. Bit of a clean up & paint & call it good. Nice find.

coop has been moved with very little damage,,(this thing is heavy, no plywood all made out of planks of wood)......cleaned out all of the shavings today, tomorrow I will take the air tank to get out everything, then I plan on spreading de heavily and letting it sit for a few days,,we will be wrapping with insulation instead of trying to seal all the cracks,,,,hubby going to home depot tomorrow to price what it would cost to put siding on it to match the house........even the nest boxes are heavy, I had to get help to take them down and drag them out for cleaning...might take a few weeks to get it done but in the long run it should last alot longer than any prefab i could of got... people that had it just wanted it gone, amazing what some people see as junk..

going to tsc to find a disinfecting spray!!
