I agree with not taking advice from a feed store. Yes baby chicks are made to be outside- with their MOM! And she listens to them and when they get cold she sits down and all the babies run under/in her feathers. If you don't have a hen, your babies would freeze. DUH... that guy is a guber, not you.
 
ok this is funny. you sure you didnt talk to my husband?

from the day we got my 1st chickens, at appx 1 1/2 month old, they have been outside in the chicken coop. They never complained and loved every minute of it. BUT
BUT BUT... it was JUNE and it was perfect weather. I wouldnt do it to my babies now. Its appx 30-60 degrees in the mornings and at nights. I wonder how birds in the wild survived? Adaptation. Hmmm... well. These are our pets and its ok if they are spoiled. My hubby thinks im spoiling our chicks.

P.S. my chickens have never been free range because of the dogs and cat.
