Did Jonny Cash invent Rap?

That was awesome! Probably the most I have ever liked Johnny Cash.

I believe rap was invented by mean nuns at private schools rapping knuckles with old wooden yard sticks...

Johny was a true artist, that is immortal through his music, he is a god of music.

Interesting viewpoints. I don't see it as eclectic at all. Interpretation is everything, aint it?

Fascinating

Jimi Hendricks, Danica Patrick "mania" referring to her NASCAR bid, and Underdog.......seems a wide and varying range of interests. Personally, I'm more a "Junior Nation" and Huckleberry Hound kinda girl, but Jimi is good any time!

Yeah I did get that. She seems to like lots of different 'stuff,' which is the common definition of 'eclectic': one likes lots of stuff, ergo one must be eclectic.

Dictionary.com defines 'eclectic' thus:

1. selecting or choosing from various sources.
2. made up of what is selected from different sources.
3. not following any one system, as of philosophy, medicine, etc., but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems.

The implication is that because one "cherry-picks" and has varied interests, one is also non-biased or opinionated. This is a common adjunct to the term which you apply here. It is also fraught with some peril.

We make the assumption that because people like "lots of different stuff," they are also egalitarian and non-biased. Nothing is further from the truth.

I like Barak Obama, for example. He is a decent chap, likes to ride bikes - Hey, I like to ride 'em, too! - and a good father. He likes Mexican food and beer (me too!

), and he looks good in a turtleneck/leather blazer combination. There is much to cherry pick with the guy.

But I also think he is a dreamy, legalistic zealot, a product of the controlling intelligentsia mindset that would undermine individual liberty wherever it is found. The sort we've been warned about many times down through the ages.

So you see, "cherry picking" eclectism seems simple enough, but rarely is. People are far to complex for that.

PS You can also tell I am currently home on a short term disability ticket, with too much time on my hands!
