Hi All,

This is my first time hatching egg via a broody mama.

The eggs are due to hatch any day now. I check my broody mama several
times a day to make sure she is doing ok. Anyway, I found this egg this morning.

Did she crush her egg during the night or is the way a normal chick hatches? If she
did crush it will it survive? I do feel a formed chick under the membrane.

Thanks in advance.

This is my broody Miss Katie May

Here is the egg I have in question.

Is there anyone else out there who can give me some advice.
Does the chick in the egg that she crushed have a chance?

Need a little direction, I have never hatched eggs before and am needing some
guidance.

Thanks Again,

I really do not know what to do now. Will the cracked egg survive or is the formed chick inside dead.

Do I take the egg away from my hen or what. I don't want to upset her and cause her to break up
being broody.

Really could use some advice from those who have done this before.

Thanks.

hello im new here i had a hen crush a egg that had started to pip last year i left it with mum and it was fine within 24 hours i could see the chick moving when this happened...... have any of the other eggs started to pip yet and can u see any movement ?

Hi Thanks.

No I haven not seen any of the other eggs start to peep or move yet. They are do to hatch any day now.
So I should leave it with the hen for at least another day to make sure that it is okay. Then after that
I guess I should assume that it is not going to make it I guess.

Thanks again,

i would leave it with mum it may make it if they are due to hatch. but im not sure there is much more u can do apart from keep a eye on mum and eggs and see what happens keep us posted i hope the chick will make it .. could u hear any noise coming from it/chick ?

I'm not expert, but I would just leave it alone and see. I just had a broody hen hatch. She was setting on 6 eggs. The first one hatched 2 days before they were "due". The next 2 hatched over the course of the next 2 days. Then she stopped sitting on the eggs. I was planning to dispose of the eggs since I figured they were "duds". We were very busy that day, so I never got around to it. I remembered in the middle of the night and went out the next morning to get rid of those eggs, only to be surprised with a fourth little chick!

Sadly, though, today my son found that 3 chicks were missing and the fourth was dead. I'm almost positive it was a snake. He did, however, ingest 2 ceramic eggs as well, so he will soon be a dead snake. :)
