Has anyone else had this happen? I don’t have any new girls, all 4 sex links lay brown eggs and 4 Wheaten Ameraucanas lay sky blue. So.... I assume one of the sex links forgot to “paint” her egg today? Another hen had an oopsie egg on the poop board too last night. Nothing has changed except I started vitamins and electrolytes in their water 2 weeks ago. I’ve also been getting broken eggs in the nest box. They are on a layer pellet, access to oyster shell, and free range often.
Weird egg day!

I get that but with turkey eggs. Turkeys lay light tan eggs with dark brown speckles, but sometimes I’ll get almost pure white eggs. It’s so strange and fascinating at the same time!

I just remember my college professor telling me how eggs 'dont ever come out white' and that Brown eggs are being bleached and sold to us in stores. Ahahahaa.

That is not as unusual as you may think. The last half hour in the shell gland is when the hen puts the brown on the egg. When you crack a brown egg look inside under that membrane. You should see a white shell. You can sandpaper the brown off the outside and see white underneath. A brown egg shell is basically white until the hen paints the outside.

Sometimes the hen pops the egg out a little early, before some or all of the brown has been applied. So you get a white egg. It's no big deal, we are all entitled to an occasional oops. If it becomes a regular thing then you might have a reason to be concerned.

Those broken eggs in the nest concern me. What is going on? Are the shells of those broken eggs really thin? Is something getting in there and eating eggs? When do those broken eggs happen? Are you leaving eggs in the coop overnight? What do those broken eggs look like, do they have a small hole like a hen poked a toenail through or are the shells shattered?

Again, one broken egg is not that big a deal, stuff happens. But if it is becoming a regular thing then you have a problem that needs to be solved.

If you started having these problems after starting those electrolytes and vitamins you might try stopping them and see if you still have these problems two weeks later.
