I have not seen this before: opened the egg and the yolk was muddled through the entire thing - looked like a rotten egg, but it didn't smell and it wasn't old. It surprised me, because I've never had anything unusual when I open the eggs. I've gotten several shell-less eggs over the past 5.5 months (since they started laying), but nothing like this. Does anyone know what happened? Is this unusual? My girls turned 1 year old on June 15th :)

If they have been laying a lot of shell less eggs and this has occurred. I recommend you feed them some oyster shell.
They seem to be lacking some calcium in their diet.

They have free access to oyster shell AND grit. I wouldn't say I get a lot of shell-less eggs, in 5.5 months, I've gotten maybe 4 or 5. Would lack of calcium affect the INSIDE of the egg, i.e., the yolk?

Yolks have membranes or thicker outer layer, not sure which, that can burst. There may have been a defect in that membrane. Rare to have one burst in the shell. Looks like I'm going to have scrambled eggs soon so I can see if find out which.
