Hello again. maybe someone could answer this. I found one of my hens laying on the floor barely alive, It looked like almost all her insides were on the outside. I immediately put her out of her misery. she was about 7 months old. please let me know if there is a cause for this or just a fluke. I've had chickens for 2 1/2 years now and have never seen this.

Sorry about your hen. Hens do sometimes get a prolapsed vent, there are quite a few threads on it if you do a search (some have pictures you might be able to compare to what you saw in your hen ie) https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...e-prolapsed-vent-warning-pictures-are-graphic and http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/04/prolapse-vent-causes-treatment-graphic.html If the hen had a prolapsed vent and the rest of the flock vent picked (which is very common) they could have injured her even more and even killed her.
From what you are describing though, I would also be concerned that you have a predator getting in the coop, some animals will disembowel birds... and take a good look at the coop security.

Thanks for the information. I think the other chickens did most of the damage, hard to believe what they can do sometimes. pretty gruesome. The coup is built very tight, and they are locked in every night. This happened in the middle of the day, inside the coup. I was even working outside of it spreading new gravel and mowing. when I went in to put down more shavings on the floor of the coup is when I found her.
