Did you know ducks lay eggs in water?

I am still learning all things ducks, but....we are emptying our pond to refill it, and we have found five eggs so far at the bottom. Weird! I can only reach three so far. I wish my ducks would come out and see all the bugs at the bottom of the pond before we fill it back up....TONS of bugs...they would be in heaven.

Yes, I discovered this, too. I'm positive I don't want to eat duck eggs which have been submerged in icky duck ponds. Darn it.

Usually my Cayuga would lay RIGHT NEXT to the kiddie pool, but occasionally she'd lay her egg in the water.

Yeah, especially when they're young they don't always know it's coming and--whoops, there it is.

Dave Holderread tells the story of when he was young, finding an entire nest under water (it had been flooded), and how he took those eggs home (over his mother's protests) and hatched them. Apparently, they're pretty resilient.

Can you just leave the pond for the ducks for a few hours and let them eat the bugs? Mine love to dig under the kiddie pools when I move them, and come running as soon as they see the pools getting lifted up. Yum yum!

We are going to leave the pond empty for awhile, so that they can come and enjoy some tasty snacks--but they are staying in the willows right now, all the noise must have scared them. Kinda excited for them to discover the mess we made for them.

I've found turkey eggs in their water bucket about 5 or 6 times this spring.

I guess they just squat and lay where they are.

Years ago my Pekins often laid eggs in their pool. The runners have only once, maybe twice, left an egg in their swim pan.

They look kinda ghostly in the water.


Silly ducks. This year, one has decide to lay in no nest.............she just lays where ever she happens to be. It is always a race to find her egg before the dogs do

I find them every so often when I clean out their pools. We have a 1/4 acre pond that the ducks use, too. I'd hate to see how many eggs are in it.

You won't believe what I found in the bottom of my pond which is outside my front door. No less than 100 duck eggs!!! The pond was murky green for the last month. No matter what my husband tried, the green wouldn't go or clear up. I decided that today was the day to drain that pond and start over. Everywhere I looked, there was a duck egg...all rubbery and very smelly. We had seen a few floating over the last months but never expected what was found. We only have three females and one male. Talk about rotten egg? Whew!!!
