Didn't get what I paid for. What to do?

Never pay without the papers in hand would be my opinion.

My grandmother bought a weener dog and they said he had papers but she forgot them (met at a public place in town) and that she would mail them to her and to this day, 2 yrs later, she has yet to get ahold of those papers. I think the people stole the dog and sold it as purbred (which you can tell it is) but they don't have the papers because it wasn't theirs. That happens alot around here....

You can find well bred dogs for good deals but never buy without those papers in hand next time.

Good luck with it all

Well, as for all those who think i'd have to pay thousands of dollars for a registered dog have evidently not been buying dogs around here. $200-$300 is actually a pretty reasonable price around here for a registered coondog puppy. True, papers don't make a dog and we love him whether he has papers or not. My point is that he was advertised on a coonhunters website, just like this site except for coonhunters, and was advertised as purple ribbon registered. Had he NOT had those papers we would have looked elsewhere for a little less pricey dog. My fiancee bought a non papered dog for $100 and had a purple ribbon paper dog given to him FREE so the papers or no papers were not the issue. The issue is that I paid for a PAPERED dog and have yet to get any papers. I have contacted UKC and they have no record of the pups being registered either. As for the comment that I must not need the money to pay that for a dog, well it was actually a gift that I saved up several months to buy. So..... before you judge someone maybe you should find out all the facts instead of just assuming because you know what is said about assuming. Anyway, thanks for all the comments and advise.

I have bought many dogs, some with papers some without. I have also sold/traded quite a few dogs and puppies. The animals that were either registered or pending registration had transfer papers present so both the buyer and seller could sign and date them...then it was up to the new owner to proceed with the registration if they so desired. No transfer papers present at the time of sale=a non registerable dog...for one reason or another....

Now about the papers....if you don't tell the dog that he isn't papered he will never know...and papers don't hunt...I'd wait until you are sure he is a non-hunter before you complain too loudly....

Well personally i say papers dont matter. If he IS the blood line he says he is then $200 for a pup should be good cause he's gonna be treeing you lots of coons! 90% of the dogs i've had with papers turned out to be lazy no good dogs that layed down at the tree lol. I would be ad i didnt get the papers but wouldnt worry so much with it. We've had people hunting with us and at the tree pull out $1,200 cash and say hand the leash over and the dog had ZERO papers.

ROFL...could some one translate that for an Aussie?

What geoaware is pointing out is that there is a world of difference between a pretty show dog and a solid hunting dog. One brings home ribbons and the other dinner.

Well I understand where the OP is coming from, if you buy a dog advertised as papered you should get papers!

I'll also agree that dog prices vary quite a bit depending on location, they aren't that pricy here. I just checked the local classifieds and prices on purebred papered dogs are ranging $100-$350, w/ some higher prices for bulldogs (both english and french), average being $100-$200, several free young adult dogs (one ad had a free one year old bloodhound and 7 month old great dane, don't know if they had papers).

It also doesn't cost that much here to get a dog from a rescue, w/ peoples attitudes about paying for a dog around here (especially anything that isn't purebred and papered, and even then they'd about die to hear someone paid more then $300 for a dog! Maybe a lap dog, but not anything else), I honestly don't know how rescues manage! From the pound you can get a grown dog for $12 I think (unless it has its rabbies tag, then it's $10), and a puppy for $17. I've adopted a few cats, and one dog from rescues and they were anywhere from $25-$70, all except one was already spayed/neutered and the one that wasn't we had a vocher to get money back after it was done (none of these were from purebred resues, I've not ever tried to adopt from a purebred rescue, but I have delt w/ them alittle and didn't have as good experience and don't know what they charge).

I guess that's not really much help, I just wanted to point out that prices can vary alot depending on the area!

Also keep in mind the dogs you're finding in the paper are not the 'cream of the crop'. They probably aren't health tested and their parents probably haven't been proven in anything.

did you sign a contract? if not you have no ground to stand on, sorry about it, but i make my potential puppy owners sign a contract, also what registry are they using? it could be a bogus registry, and it's true what a few people said, you get what you pay for
