Obviously a beginner to chickens. I am afraid I have made a huge mistake.

I have 5 pullets that I have had for a month and a half. They are all fat, healthy and sassy. They free-range all day and have a large well ventilated coop at night. They all get along.

Today I bought 3 more pullets from a different local small free range farm (they had 20 chickens born and raised there. They are also 5 months.

I am dumb. Instead of consulting BYC, I tossed them into the coop at dusk.

I am obviously HUGELY regretting this decision.

However, what can I possibly do now? Should I pull them out knowing that they are probably all "infected" and try quarantining after the fact? Do I give them yogurt? Do I cross my fingers? Medicated feed? DE?

HELP!!!

I am sorry. I will never do it again. I promise. Bad, bad chicken mom.

PS: please don't report me to DIPHS chicken division

I don't understand are your new hens sick? If not, The reason you would keep apart is to make sure they new birds are indeed healthy ie no mites, lice etc. and then keep them apart but with just a fence between them so, they can get use to each other for a week or so. By keeping apart they will most likely not peck the new birds and it will not stress the birds.
