Diffences Between EEs, Ameraucanas, and Araucanas

Not surprised, given how different the two are. Out of curiousity, what are you basing that upon? Should I have been able to tell looking at the 4-day old chicks on purchase? As I said, I'm perfectly happy, but I'm a scientist so I like to accurate where possible!

Which part of the high-desert are you located?

Like most standard bred chickens, Araucanas and Ameraucanas have predictable visual information, from the baby down colors and patterns, to the adult feathers, legs, eyes, and body shapes.

Easter Eggers were traditionally Ameraucana mixes.

Do most people call any blue-egg mixes Easter Eggers? For example, Crested Cream Legbars, which are a standard bred blue egg layer, mixed with a different blue, white or tan egg-layer?

Go to www.ameraucana.org and click on the photo link. You will find photos of both adult birds and baby chicks in all their recognized color varieties. Both large fowl and bantams too.

as Chantecler7 recommended, if you go to the breed club sites you can find good visual examples as well as the descriptive Standard of Perfection (SOP) for each breed/variety.

Easter Eggers typically show the dominant traits of parents, although it is usually on a percentage basis and is also affected by how many breeds are in the mix/how many generations.

Yes , of course! I found a wonderful farm in the mountains for Sassy. He will have 10 girls to himself he will be happy. I will be sad! I am going to keep him as long as I can. We are in city, no Roosters allowed . His teen voice is coming in. I get a kick out of watching and listening to him. He's a good boy! When pepper starts to lay , I will let you know what color and if she changes at all after her first molt. Thank you for you help! I'm also adding two new girls to our home today, another round of chirping all day and night.

Can any of you experts identify these two? The 4 day old is supposed to be an Ameraucana from a hatchery, and the three week old is a random bantam from the TSC bantam bin. Another poster thought it was an EE.

Okay ! I ordered from Murrary and the Lady kept saying Easter Eggers as I was placing My order ; some Straight Run , some Pullets and 1 Roo.( Also different breeds.) That was fine with Me ! Because We( Me and the Grandkids )wanted different color eggs. We now have close to 100 different Teenager chicks and can't wait to see the different color of eggs.About 2 more months and We should be getting Eggs..
