Diffences Between EEs, Ameraucanas, and Araucanas

It may be helpful when your pullet starts laying.  Her chipmunk down matches up well with her wild type feathering; could have brown leghorns, cream legbars, crele penedesencas, or welsumers in the mix.

Your cockerel reminds me of a speckled sussex or some other speckled/mottled variety.

If they both have peacombs, it is likely that they have Ameraucana in the mix, but neither one is showing beards or muffs, so ... they could be several generations of mixes or?

The eggs and offspring will be helpful, but often not decisive information.

As I enjoyed and appreciated the many variables, I endeavored to learn about genetics. It was and continues to be very interesting. There are some things that become more clear in standard bred as well as mixed breeds, and other aspects that just require more time/research.

Yes, exactly ! I'm so curious ! I have 3 full bred RIR love them. Sweet girls, Sassy and Pepper are just interesting to me. I also love to read about the mixes. Why and how people do this? It's intriguing.

I also got my chicks from a local feed store which labeled them as "Araucana". I figured they were probably Ameraucanas, and at just under two weeks, they are sprouting distinct tails. One is much larger than the other and also larger than the Barred Rock and the Rhode Island Red.

I don't much mind what they are, but if like to be describing them accurately as either Ameraucana or Easter Egger. Can one tell at the chick stage? If I posted pictures, could one of you experts ID the breed?

If it has green legs, it's an Easter Egger and might lay green, pink, brown or white eggs.

Not surprised, given how different the two are. Out of curiousity, what are you basing that upon? Should I have been able to tell looking at the 4-day old chicks on purchase? As I said, I'm perfectly happy, but I'm a scientist so I like to accurate where possible!
