I recently acquired what the well respected NPIP breeder told me was a purebred Buff Ameracauna pullet. She’s about 12 weeks old. It was only after reading up on Ameracaunas on BYC that I learned that she should have dark slate legs. Instead she has what I would describe as pale blue legs - almost like the color someone’s skin turns when they’re cold. Her legs definitely aren’t white or yellow in any way - just this pale blue color. Is this an acceptable Ameracauna leg color?
Slate to dark slate shanks on a buff Ameraucana would be ideal, but some lines still produce shanks with just a hint of bluish slate. Depending on their other characteristics they may be used as breeders and as long as they aren't disqualified, when exhibited, by a "qualified" licensed judge they should be considered "Ameraucanas".
