Differance in eggs?

Hi josh,

You may not be able to tell the difference easily, but every duck has egg "tendencies" of her own, some of which are related to breed, and some of which are not. My runner eggs tend to be bullet-shaped and greenish, but that's not true for all runners. I would expect Scovies to have larger eggs, probably white, but again it probably varies by age and individual (young ducks tend to have darker colored smaller eggs, for instance).

The best thing you can do is to separate them overnight a couple times and just observe what you see. It should give you a good idea who is laying what type of egg. It shouldn't be too hard to do, either--for just a couple nights, you can erect a temporary fence inside their pen, or just close some into a large dog crate or similar. Good luck!!

I had a fenced in section on the lake for the runners. They had a house and layed a few eggs in it then they started excaping. I let the drakes out. I have never seen them lay but I know some of the eggs belong to them. Someone is still going in and laying in the nest. But could be a scovy.

Like Cat said Runners green and scovies white. Hope a predator dont get your free rangers.

Well you have me confused. Did the fenced in area have a top ? Is that how they escaped ? You never seen em lay but you KNOW the eggs belong to them? Someones laying in the nest but could be muscovy? How did the scovy get in, fly walk? Yes runners can lay white eggs just not near as common though. Also scovies eggs are generally bigger. I guess just wait till they hatch at this point
