Okay, yesterday at 1:30 I decided to go ahead and move my eggs to the bottom tray, I have some others that are 2 days behind.

When I went to move them I saw a crack. I was so upset, because I candled tem the night before and didnt think I had cracked one, but I guessed I did.

I picked it up, hopeing it was still okay, and it was chirping. so the dang thing had pipped on day 18.

Iput it in the bottom, and it eventually had cracks about the size of a dime radiating out.

Its sticking its beak out this morning, through the membrane, but hasnt zipped around.

I have a few more I can hear peeping, and one more pipping, I am trying to keep the humidity up, but what is too long after pipping to have not zipped, I know they can pip for 24 hours, I am 5 hours away from the 24 hour mark, and since I have a 4 year old watching it struggle I am trying to explain that it is trying to get out. LOL But I think she has me nervous.

Also, does anyone know for how many days you can hear them peeping? like at waht day do they start? I have some that are, some that looked good at candle that are not. ???

No expert here, but I am a fellow threadkiller.
I've heard them peeping a day or two before hatch.
My best advice is to walk away. You know what they say about a watched pot, right. Same idea here.
Find something to do. Do not look at the bator. Go to the park, take in a movie, have some lunch, something. Anything.

Then when you come back, hopefully you'll have a new fuzzy.

haha i agree. standing there watching aint gonna do nothin but bother you. let what happens happen:)

Mine made peeps 2-3 days before-after 24 hours of pipping I had to step in because I could not get my humidity up high enough-got a few out that way and they are fine now-The membranes had really dried out and sealed up on them-stopping them from moving to push out.

That's all good advise, but I can say since we're on our first hatch, there will be 2 faces plastered to the bator...We'll do our best...

For imprinting purposes, is hanging pictures of us in the bator a good idea?

hahaha

Im on my first hatch as well and have been very good at being home at all times to hand turn my eggs. Now I have to go away on a camping trip on their last 3 days. I guess its good cause I would be in there wanting to candle and listen.
I just hope to return to some chicks!!

Mine made no noise at all till after 2 of them were out of the eggs! I'd thought they were dead till then but now I've got 8 running around and ready for the brooder. Another one got stuck to his membrane so DH moistened it with a swab and removed some of the easier bits, He should be able to get out now.
