Difference Between Blue and Self Blue

No it didn't! I'm kind of glad this happened cause the judge at 4H doesn't really like me and she picks on the littlest things so now I know many ways

The way I see it, self blue is to lavender; the same way that Black Copper is to Brown Red. Same coloration, same genes at play but a different name.

What I could fine the wording "Self Blue" was first used in the 1965 edition of the APA. At this time it was easy to import animals/birds from the UK. So chances are someone brought some Lavenders over here and appears no one here was familar with the correct Scientific and genetic terminology. So now the color at that time was mislabeled and looks like APA will not correct the mistake that was made then.

If one researches the UK had Lavender long before the self blue even existed here. Too many terminology for the same color has been in existance here in the USA, there use to be consistency back in the early 1900's with all the countries with a yearly conservatory of poultry scientists.

The term "Self BLue" was used in the early 1900's when a black orpington was crossed with a white orpington and they produced a blue orpington without lacing. Then the blues were changed to the standard to meet the requirements of the Blue Andalusians with lacing.
