It has been a few years since I have had Blackshoulder Purple chicks as until this year my BS Purple hen was in with my Purple male so all I got was splits to BS Purple. This year I moved her in with my BS Blue cock knowing any BS Purples I get will be hens. The problem is all my BS chicks so far look alike and I can't remember the difference... isn't it that the BS Blue chicks, when they start to show color, it is black and tan and the BS purples it is rust and tan or grayish and tan? I can tell gender on some so I know the males are Blues, but for the life of me can't tell on the fuzziered colored females.
Can anyone give me guidance or better yet pictures? :-D

Thanks,
Val

If I remember correctly-all of your chicks will be India blue blackshoulder. With only the males being split to purple. In order to get purple chicks, your male would have to be purple. Unless your blue male is split to purple?

Correct DAS! All chicks will be indian blue black shoulder, with only the males being split to purple. In order to get purple hens, you must use a purple male.

If the order was reversed and it was a Purple BS male and BS hen, all female chicks would be purple and you could visually tell the difference compared to BS male. Non sex link, a lot wait to look at coloring or barring (disappearance of barring is hen)
