So my first batch of coturnix quail eggs just went into the incubator ... such beautiful eggs... question... some were significantly weighing lighter than others.. and also some much larger in size... is this just a “thing”... or is this an inclination that they might not hatch? Just curious at what some have experienced with that

I also would like to know the answer. I have bobwhites and few are Georgia giants but a very tiny one from one of the regular sized hens.

Very tiny eggs might not be fully formed and as such they might not hatch. But in coturnix some birds will lay small 8 gram eggs and others might lay large 14 gram eggs and both are fully able to hatch. Now, if one of the large eggs feels light, or one of the small eggs feels lighter then the other small eggs, that could mean the eggs are too old to hatch - they feel light because a lot of their water content has evaporated.
Very large eggs might have 2 yolkes and these very rarely hatch.
