Is a Lohmann just another name for red star or is it a different cross?
I just got my coop built last Friday and I got my first two birds on Saturday. They are Lohmann Browns. I picked them because they are a common type of bird around here and they're cute, quiet and mellow. I was going to take a couple of a friend's birds that she's attached to in order to protect them from predators and leave her with red stars for egg production.
The transfer didn't happen. My coop and run can only handle four birds, so I only bought two pullets, but in retrospect I should have bought 3. I am not comfortable with just two birds in case something happens to one leaving the other one lonely. I don't want to introduce just one, so I'm going to pick up two more birds. I'll try the other hybrid. For variety, I hope that they are different crosses. Information online about these ladies seem to be scarce. I understand that both are sex-linked and proficient layers so they're good for production, but I can't find out much else.
