Not really so misleading. The one thing I think that they need to correct is that the Araucana was imported to the US in the thirties. That is incorrect.

There were three types of South American chickens imported. You'll have to look them up to see the correct spelling they were the Collandra, Quecha, and Querto. It was a combination of these that the US breeds were developed from.

Both Araucana and Aneraucana at first were being bred as the same bird. Different breeders were working on two types. When they were showing for admittance to the APA the Araucsna type was the one that was first accepted.

So the breeders that were working on the muffed type (Ameraucana), went back and started working and showing their birds and in the 80's (84 I think) were accepted in the APA as the Ameraucana.

here in australia both types are recognised. Crested and muffed with or without tail although rumpless is rare as most dont breed them

Sorry, I do remember that, lol... just was trying to head off the inevitable debate... :D

Wish the US hadn't made ours so difficult... :/

blue and black barred araucana chicks. crele roo over black and blue hens. these i think are girls, should have taken a pic of the boys, their markings are better. parent birds below. yes my hens are not to standard. :) they are a work in progress

Adorable!! The lav(ish) color could be a light, washed out blue...
