They look like they are carrying a lot of Ameraucana traits. I have both EE & Ameraucanas and love them so much!

Rustywoman ~ Congratulations on your first EE egg.

How egg-citing!!!! I never forget waiting for my first EE's to lay their first colored egg. I love the breed and the different shades of eggs each lay. I have to laugh that one of my very first favorite EE girls ended up laying a pinkish tan color. I said, "BROWNIE, how could you!" LOL!!!! Just kidding...love her soo much. Is that a Marans egg in the pic? It's so dark and pretty. I hope to add some to the flock one day. I love those chocolate colored eggs.

bmbetsy ~ How old is your cockerel? I guess my newest blue Ameraucana cockerel (Edwin) is almost 6 months now (hatched in July) and he was pretty quiet. He just started crowing a few weeks ago. My black Ameraucana, Miles (hatched April 08') is very vocal, but not as vocal as my first and head SLW roo Napoleon.

I'll try to post pic soon of my EE & Ameraucanas. Mine are so sweet, loving & social.

Pretty wild, isn't it? ETA, I agree with you. EE's are an interesting and attractive addition to any flock.

I have a question about the splash "Ameraucana." I know that it is the result of two blue parents and that it is not accepted into the standard, does this mean that it does not breed true at all or just less than 50% of the time?

Splash breeds true in that SxS or SWxSW yields 100% Splash or SW, respectively. I think the reason that Splash & SW have not been accepted is because there weren't enough folks working with them to meet the qualifications for acceptance but I'm not sure. It may also have had something to do with the fact that their is no standard coloration pattern for the variety.

Jean, you've been around the Ameraucanas longer than I have, has John, Mike, Michael, Barb, Paul, Lisa or the other long-timers ever mentioned the reason to you?

God Bless,

You're quite welcome. Just glad I could be of help. Yes, SW stands for Splash Wheaten. I just say WBS because it's easier than WBWSW!

I'm sure this is on BYC elsewhere but thought I'd post it again here as it may be helpful to others:

Black x Black = 100% Black
Black x Blue = 50% each Black & Blue
Blue x Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash
Splash x Black = 100% Blue
Splash x Blue = 50% Blue, 50% Splash
Splash x Splash = 100% Splash

Wheaten x Wheaten = 100% Wheaten
Wheaten x Blue Wheaten = 50% each Wheaten & Blue Wheaten
Blue Wheaten x Blue Wheaten= 50% Blue Wheaten, 25% Wheaten, 25% Splash Wheaten
Splash Wheaten x Wheaten = 100% Blue Wheaten
Splash Wheaten x Blue Wheaten = 50% each Blue Wheaten & Splash Wheaten
Splash Wheaten x Splash Wheaten = 100& Splash Wheaten

God Bless,
