Just one other thing to add for clarity if folks don't know-Wheaten is Black based and Blue Wheaten blue then if you are breeding those Varieties.
Seems like everyday someone has a question about that so you can't post it enough!

First egg from one of the chicks hatched from the first basket. Yea!!

I have been looking to purchase some Ameraucanas. Do you wonderful people have a list of reputable breeders, preferably close to Ohio/Michigan border?
Or is there any of you that sell hatching eggs? I have seen the prices for hatching eggs all over the place, what is the common price for TRUE Ameraucana hatching eggs?

Lucky you-you are near John Blehm!! You can see who is close to you by looking at the Breeders Directory at Ameraucana.org.
There are some really nice ones on BYC, too. Keep an eye to the hatching egg auctions.
Pips&peeps, a very reputable breeder has eggs on Eggbid.
Hatching eggs seem to run $20-$50 with an ave about $30.00.

Rustywoman ~ Congratulations on your first EE egg.

How egg-citing!!!! I never forget waiting for my first EE's to lay their first colored egg. I love the breed and the different shades of eggs each lay. I have to laugh that one of my very first favorite EE girls ended up laying a pinkish tan color. I said, "BROWNIE, how could you!" LOL!!!! Just kidding...love her soo much. Is that a Marans egg in the pic? It's so dark and pretty. I hope to add some to the flock one day. I love those chocolate colored eggs.

bmbetsy ~ How old is your cockerel? I guess my newest blue Ameraucana cockerel (Edwin) is almost 6 months now (hatched in July) and he was pretty quiet. He just started crowing a few weeks ago. My black Ameraucana, Miles (hatched April 08') is very vocal, but not as vocal as my first and head SLW roo Napoleon.

I'll try to post pic soon of my EE & Ameraucanas. Mine are so sweet, loving & social.

I have two that are nearly eight months old and I haven't heard a peep from them. Of course I do have a couple of dominant roosters that are making up for them. Even my little serama can be quite noisy!!!!

I am wanting to know what breed you think my hen is more like. I want to get a roo for her but not sure if I should get aracana or americana? I know she is a mix from mcmurry hatchery. She was my free rare chick with my order.

Another poster thought she looked more like a americana. She only has aracana roos. Thought it would be best if I get an americana roo for her.

Thank you!

Has anyone else requested that this thread be stickied? That would be GREAT.

You know she's an Easter Egger, and not either Araucana or Ameraucana, right?

Also, good luck on finding Araucanas. . .

They're very rare, as neither of the two breeds are found at hatcheries.

She's most like an Ameraucana though, to answer your question. No EE sold at hatcheries is like an Araucana.
