Hi, quick question.

We acquired some duck eggs from two different breeders.

They were sold as the same breed (miniature silver appleyards) however the eggs from one seller are slightly different in appearance than the others.

One batch of eggs are pure white while the others are blue tinted and slightly smaller/thinner - I asked both sellers and they both assure me they are the breed I requested. So, is it normal for the same "breed" to have various colours of eggs? Or is this a case of one breed not being exactly what they say to be/heavily cross bred?

Bonus question: what should pure bred (if there is such a thing) miniature silver appleyard eggs be?

Yes they definitely could be the same breed. Each hen lays different eggs. Here are 3 groups of mallard eggs. These all hatched out mallards and I saw the parents. They are super varied. Your eggs probably are the same breed. I don't know about Appleyards so I can't answer your other question. Here are the mallard eggs. Before and after

Thank you for the reply!

It was just strange that there was no variation between breeders but there was between the two :)

I did not know that about mallard eggs! Very interesting how much variation there is. I have only ever raised khakis and pekins so eggs were always just plain old boring white haha.

Lol! I was pretty amazed when I saw the difference

Thank you for the reply, looks like we are on a similar journey then :)

Good luck with your hatching we have 3 -4 more days on 2 of our eggs (started with 6, 3 were not fertile and 1 more gave up on us) - We now have another 12 which all seem to be doing well!

Goodluck,
We are on day one and it’s our first time so quite nervous! Can’t wait to see yours hatch, please post pics 😊
