Different growth rates???

I’ve been told on BYC that chicks double in size their first week.
So if the Wyandottes are a week younger, it makes sense that the others are bigger.

That looks like the difference between a large standard (the brahma) and a bantam.

I got my checks when they were two days old but my barred rock was almost a week old and couldn’t believe after week having them how much bigger that barred rock was in the other chickens. And I noticed since I got several different breeds they’re growing at different rates. Like my jersey giant was one of the smallest of the bunch for a while

That’s a big difference in size. However, when I got 4- one month old mixed breed chicks, 3 years ago, my blue Wyandotte remained smaller than the others for many, many weeks. She eventually caught up. She is now rounder, larger, and heavier than my 2 Easter Eggers. She’s our big “ KaHENa.” Queen of the roost.
