I have chicks ordered from Cackle Hatchery that should come the 21st of this month and it's so hard to wait for them!

I know! This will be the hardest part --- waiting! Mine are Blue Orps from Berrytangle Farm, out of my very large English Blue Roo and English Light Blue Hen. Fun! My mixed flock is from Cackle Hatchery. The hens will be a year old next month and they're all laying, despite the cold and snow. I'm in Seattle so it's not like we're in the negative temps, but it's unusual to have this much cold and a 3rd snow fall.

I'll definitely take pictures of the chicks' progress and they're Coming Out party!

Ok! I'll take pictures too for sure! I am getting 5 EE's, 5 Salmon Faverolles, and 5 brown leghorns. I hope the weather warms up some here in PA. It's only 23 degrees out right now and it's supposed to be in the 30's when they come. I will have 2 heat lamps going in the brooder. I have them in my shed so hopefully I can keep warm enough for them.

these just got put in today black copper marans, isbar, legbar, tan ones are Delaware. nice neighbor lady gave them too me and in the spring- swedish flower hens.

Sounds great! Just be careful with those heat lamps. They've started so many fires in coops and sheds. My brooder goes in the garage, has a piece of chain link fence across the top and the heat lamp hangs above that. I really want to try the "Sweeter Heater." Waiting to save enough for it

Yet! Still! Np relief in sight.
I noticed you mentioned having a brooder in a shed. I have my peeps in the house. They will be three weeks old next Friday. Do you think that would be too soon to put them in the garage with a heatlamp?
Or the basement? The basement would be warmer, but the attached garage would be more convenient and lighter.

Yes, I agree this snow needs to stop! I honestly have know idea. If your garage is attached to your house you might be fine. My chicks always go in our shed in the brooder. I never had any problems with it being to cold, but I've always got my chicks in march. I will be getting mine on the 21st of this month and I am a little scared it might be too cold for them. Hopefully It will warm up soon.
