Hi all, I have two cockerels about 14 to 16 weeks of age. They are both silver laced wyandottes, I don't know why but they have very different tails. Is one of them possibly crossed with something else? I wanted to know because I intend to breed only pure SLW. I want to keep this Heritage breed going strong! Thanks for any help.

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

I can't make it out well... but thinking one ma have wry tail? Or maybe just bullying and some feathers missing?

How old are they now?

Did you know that some folks keep a straight combed Wyandotte in their breeding stock as breeding nothing but rose combs has been proven to reduce sperm motility after several generations causing fertility issues? Their combs aren't exactly the same. Which one do you like better? :pop

Thanks for the info, I like them both a lot they are good tempered as far as looks I prefer the one with the frayed looking tail, I just dont want him to go in with the hens unless he meets the standard of perfection. I dont know a lot about wyandottes so it's all a learning experience for me we get very cold winters here so I'm choosing hardy birds. They are getting moved to an outdoor coop 2moro because I think they are old enough now at 14-15 weeks? They could be more. I am so glad i found this site

You know, I have a few Wyandotte’s and one of my hens has a straight comb. I was wondering about that thanks.
