Difficult to slaughter?

I just butchered a blue slate tom last weekend. His dressed weight was 19lbs. I hung him upside down from a tree and used a 20 gauge on his head. Not many spasms, and he bled out very well too. He was gone the instant the trigger was pulled.

I didn't want to cut his throat or chop his head off to kill him, because of his massive size and thick skin around his neck. While I had a disposable scalpel to do the cutting with, super sharp, I didn't want to cause any suffering if I hesitated.

I shoot mine as well. Less risk of injuring them and I hate the neck slitting, cause it will cause them pain till they pass out. Especially if you miss the vein etc. Not worth it to me.
