I have a four foot tall chain link fence around my chicken area. My hens insist on
digging around the perimeter and close to under the fence. Amy thoughts on how to remedy this? Thanks ahead of time.

Take some wire and make an apron. To keep the chickens in, take a 12” to 18” wide piece of chicken wire, hardware cloth, 2”x4” welded wire, whatever, and lay it on the ground next to the bottom of the fence and attach it to the bottom of the fence. You might need to lay something on it to stop it from curling up, brick, rock, pieces of wood, whatever you have.

To stop the chickens you can put this either on the inside or the outside, but if you use something heavier than chicken wire and put it on the outside you can also stop predators from digging in. The idea is that the predator starts digging, hits the wire, and does not know to back up. You don’t have to bury the wire, but if you take up the turf, lay the wire, then cover it back up with the turf, it is held down and out of the way of weed eaters or lawn mowers. That is a lot easier than burying the wire a foot or two straight down. Many digging predators can shred chicken wire so use something heavier on the outside of the run.
