Foxes usually only hunt at dawn and dusk. I gonna bet its a raccoon. U can try a live animal trap to trap it or just shoot it.

I don't know what it could be but yes it'll be back. You need to secure the ground around your coop/run. We buried patio stones(some use wire) sideways all around our chickens pen. Good luck.

Hoping to trap it tonight. Where it's tried to dig into is only the run area but now it knows they are there it will come back.
