dirt bath

My girls are digging into the dirt and tossing it all over them. Is this a way for them to cooldown. I did read the body temp is around 106 to 107 for a chicken....... Just wondering thank you....jim s

This is healthly chicken behavior, they do it to help clean their feathers, cool off, socialize, and generally entertain themselves. If you watch for awhile you will be pretty entertained too!

Perfectly normal, thats how they cool down, and it helps keep mites and such off.

Yup, plus they like playing in dirt, just like kids.

All chickens love to take dust baths. I just hate when my Frizzles do it or any of my bantams with feathers on their shanks or feet.
