Dirt question

My 1.5 week old chicks have a tray of dirt in there brooder do i still need to provide a separate tray of grit? Could i mix a little grit into the tray of soil?

I think your chicks are little young for grit.

The soil should provide grit for them. My chicks are out with momma from day 1 and I never provide grit for any of my flock as they pick up what they need while free ranging. Assuming your chicks are only eating starter food, grit is not necessary at this point, as stated in the above post. The reason i have grit is because they get a ground whole grain mix rather then standard commercial chick starter crumble

Ok, well hopefully the link has helped you. If in doubt, add suitable sized grit would be my suggestion.
