Hello All!

So a few weeks ago I started putting bag balm on my white rock's comb. It had a couple of spots of frost bite, and I wanted to prevent further damage.

Well since I did that Doris is one dirty bird. It is as if the salve has gotten on her feathers attracting dirt from everywhere..

My question is, is this harmful to her? Should I try to give her a dawn bath like oil spill ducks??

She used to be such a pretty little thing...she is also beginning to molt...losing feathers around her head and neck..this was happening before the bag balm though..

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Christine

It's fine chickens do get a little dirty every now and then, no need to worry.

I had the same question after putting Vaseline on my girls' combs and ending up with dirty birds. I haven't been letting them out for the past couple weeks seeing its been so darn cold here, so I haven't had a need to reapply the Vaseline. It seems to be slowly wearing off on its own. Other then being dirty, I don't think it will hurt them.

That's good news...she isn't laying though...could be due to molting? But she isn't loosing feathers very fast...how long does it take them to molt?
