Hi

I have a lame chook who manages to still be the boss. lays the most eggs and hogs the food! We are currently experiencing some hot summer weather (40 celsius +) and I have noticed that on these days she gets a dirty bottom - pooh on her feathers - she doesn't move around much on these days as it obviously uses too much energy in the heat. I just give here a quick bath to help clean her up at the end of the day.

Should I be doing anything else and is this normal for hot weather?

Cheers

Donna

PS Maybe she is doing it on purpose to get a "swim" at the end of the day!!!!

She probably is trying to cool off! My vet suggested I give mine some frozen water bottles when it gets really hot. They love them! Just being close to them cools them down some.

Summer weather in Australia! Wow. I don't know what 40 degreed C is when converted to F, but it must be warm if it's summer. It's freezing here in Kentucky. Getting below 0 F at night, staying around 15'ish during the day. that's cool.

Mine do that in Florida in the summer. I'm pretty sure they drink more water in the heat, which makes their poo watery, and makes the feathers dirty.
