What would be the cause of one hen out of 37, to have a dirty butt and not laying anymore? Maybe one a week if that. ( she’s my only cream legbar and my only blue layer which is why I know she’s not laying)
She’s had this dirty poopy butt for a few weeks now and she’s the only one.She is eating, drinking, and acting completely normal. Just dirty butt and not laying

Is this a discharge, or just poop stuck on her butt feathers? Color? No abnormal symptoms?

This sounds like vent gleet. I would try washing and drying and applying an antifungal which you can get over the counter. Good luck!

In hot weather chickens may have more runny droppings from drinking a lot of water. When a chicken has a dirty vent, try to clean them off since fly strike can be deadly. That is when flies lay maggot eggs in the poop.

I’m on the east coast and I’m having this poopy butt situation with some bantams as well. This is not typical and it’s maddening bc I can only give baths so often! :( I’m worried they will get mites or fly strike but I want to balance how often I need to have a spa day for several girls! Any suggestions on how often is required to prevent a pest problem?

Try to control any flies in your coop with a fan, fly bait traps, and possibly using permethrin spray in the coop. Let is dry for 1 hour to let chickens on it, and it lasts a month.
