Dirty chicken

Is their anyway I can clean my chicken??? Like a chicken bath, I have a very dirty smelly hen is there any way i can clean her???

Just scrub her up in a warm bath. Use dog shampoo as it is milder than human stuff. Add a spoonfull of vinegar for shiney feathers. If it`s a warm day, put her in a small pen in the sun, or dry her with a hair dryer.

Where is she dirty? what kind of dirt is the problem?

Does she have access to a dirt bath? Normally chickens need to bathe in dirt. It actually cleans them very well and protects them from mites. They roll in the dirt, kick it up onto their feathers, then they stand up and shake it all out. It makes their feathers nice. Then they'll preen their feathers, which cleans them. If they are able to do this daily, they'll stay pretty clean. You can fill up a small tub with half sand/half fine dirt -- that will work too.

Also, if a few feathers have something yukky, you could try trimming then dirty part off with a scissors (being careful of course).

I'd do those before trying a water bath.

I've given many a bath to chickens. I use baby shampoo and I get everything ready before getting the chicken. I fill the basin in the bathroom half full of warm water and slowly lower the chicken in. Sometimes they will struggle at first but almost always relax within a minute. I use a glass to pour the water on her back and then put some shampoo and wash her all over except for her head. Sometimes, you have to let them soak a few minutes to get any stubborn stuff off. Then, I let out the water and refill the sink with clean warm water and rinse out the soap as much as possible. I let that water out and run the water, filling the glass and pouring it over the chicken until I think most of the shampoo is gone. then I wrap her in a towel and towel dry her and then I blow her dry really good with a hair dryer.

Awwww thx guys and all my chickens have access to dirt bathes and actually play around in the dirt daily but my white ameraucana is still filthy especially her butt!!!!! So she will be getting a bath today and their coop and run cleaned. Because I really dont like stinky chickens lol!!!

I wash my show birds in warm water and baby shampoo. Then blow dry them. It takes a while to get all the fluff dry but most of the birds seem to enjoy it after they see you mean them no harm and feel how warm the water and air from the dryer are.

My chickens don't seem to mind it and actually like the blow dry.

I dip them in a 1/2 full 5 gallon bucket. Kepp their heads up; they tend to want to dive down.

I have a rooster that is "low man on the totem pole." He got pretty bloody yesterday. I didn't find him until I was leaving for work, so left him until today. I tried rinsing the blood off of his head, but didn't have much luck. How do you wash a rooster head? I'll try the dog shampoo, but are there any tricks for washing his head?

I would be concerned about WHY she is so dirty--that is not natural for a chicken, and could very well be a result of something wrong with her. When you give her a bath, look her over carefully for lice and mites, check for nits around the rear. Is there a possibility she could have worms? Is she laying regularly, and what does her poo look like--diarrhea? You might want to switch or clean bedding also.
